Hillary Clinton is one of the most complicated presidential candidates currently running at the moment. Anyone who has paid attention to her will have a strong opinion about her policies, scandals and even her clothing choices. Feminists and Liberals think she is a badass bitch and Conservatives just think she is a bitch. Either way, we all have feelings for her.
She has previously been most recognised as the First Lady to President Bill Clinton, who famously had an affair with White House intern Monica Lewinsky. While this arguably had very little to do with Clinton herself, the affair has often resurfaced in the media by those who criticise her. After her defeat by Barack Obama in the 2008 presidential election, Clinton was appointed Secretary of State where she had a mixed performance. She is most acclaimed for her visit to Myanmar but her achievements are often overshadowed by her involvement in the attack on the US Embassy in Benghazi that resulted in the deaths of the American Ambassador and three other consular workers. The Benghazi scandal surrounds speculation that she (purposely) withheld aid from the consulate when they requested it as they were under attack. Either way, the situation has continued to snowball into bigger problems for Clinton because this scandal has resulted in the revelation that Clinton had been using her private email address to conduct business on. The email scandal goes deeper because not only was Clinton using her personal email address but she had her own email server located in a house in New York that allowed Clinton and her staff to choose which emails they would hand over to the state and which ones they withheld. Strong critics allege that Clinton and her aids destroyed emails that were deemed to be personal.
So, if Clinton is marred with so much scandal and is the leading democratic presidential nominee then there must be reasons why people would still vote for her. First of all, every presidential candidate has had their fair share of scandals from time to time. This is just the nature of politics. Also, she is a very experienced lawyer and politician who has been in the limelight starting off with 8 years as the First Lady, a US senator in New York and then as the Secretary of State. Also, she is very textbook liberal (in the American sense) unlike some of the other candidates that are more moderate like Jim Webb (who is he anyway?) or more liberal like Bernie Sanders.
The bottom line is that Hillary Clinton has been around for a long time so everything she does garners attention from critics and supporters. It is clear that she should have provided aid to the consulate during the 2012 Benghazi attack but there has been no proof that she deliberately withheld aid. Additionally, the use of her personal email address during her time as Secretary of State was unprofessional but there is no evidence that it proved to be harmful to anyone but herself. She has been and will be criticised for every move she makes and every pant suit she wears.
